some facts about lighting
  • lights with radius reaching beyond walls into the next room will still be optimized away if they have cast shadow enabled
  • lights with light texture "lights/ambient" light all surfaces in its radius ignoring impact angle and they never cast shadows
  • the average light count per surface should be 2 (see r_showlightcount)
  • "r_showlightcount 1" (black=0 red=1 green=2 blue=3 teal=4 pink=5 white=6+)
